Board of Management
Primary schools in Ireland are managed by a group of volunteers who have a particular interest in the provision of primary schooling in their area. This team is made up of parents’ nominees, teachers' nominees, the principal, nominees of the patron and community nominees who have a particular interest or expertise.
The responsibilities of the Board of Management include:
- Ensuring the quality of teaching and learning at the school
- Recruitment of staff
- Ensuring child safeguarding and anti-bullying measures are in place
- Developing and reviewing the school plan
- Developing school policies
Nominees to the Board of Management act on behalf of their constituents, but cannot take direction from - or report back to - those constituents.
