Thornleigh Educate Together National School

Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends of Thornleigh

Welcome to our website.
Thornleigh Educate Together is a young and vibrant school nestled in the heart of the cosmopolitan village that is Applewood.

The school opened its’ doors in September 2008 and has since grown at an accelerated rate from 23 to 350 pupils and 2 to 37 staff. The children in Thornleigh are very talented and particularly enjoy, and have a flair for the Visual Arts. As a result the school is bright, colourful and busy.

We employ Howard Gardiner’s philosophy of education and as such literacy and numeracy are also taught through the Arts.  This ensures the children learn to the best of their ability through the medium which suits them best.

Some of the initiatives we offer the children here are; Nurture Schools, Reading Recovery, Mata sa Rang, First Steps (reading, writing and oral language), Ready Set Go Maths (focuses on early years mathematical education particularly number),Aistear (learning through play), Comprehension, Novel and Maths Power Hours, SALT (teaching negotiation skills from Junior Infants to 6th class – a lifelong skill), Roots of Empathy and the Incredible Years Behaviour Management strategy.

As can be seen from the above initiatives we are very child centered and seek to educate the ‘whole person’ in a holistic manner.

We believe that a child is complex (as are all human beings) and therefore we aim to provide a ro
unded and varied education to the pupil.
