Isolation guidelines for under 13s and over 13s have been updated this week

Covid-19 HSPC Documentation
We just wanted to make you aware, if you hadn’t already seen, that the isolation guides for under 13s and over 13s have been updated this week:

  • Under 13s: https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/coronavirus/novelcoronavirus/algorithms/Isolation%20quick%20guide%20under%2013s.pdf. This latest version has a version date of 6/1/21, but contains up to date information, so should probably be 6/1/22.
  • Over 13s: https://www.hpsc.ie/a-z/respiratory/coronavirus/novelcoronavirus/algorithms/Isolation%20quick%20guide%20Adults%20and%20children%20from%20their%2013th%20birthday.pdf
(We do note some ambiguity here around continued isolation from day 8-10 if symptom free, and have queried this with the Department).

COVID-19 vaccine information for parents of children aged 5-11
The HSE has published detailed information and guidance for parents about COVID-19 vaccines for children aged 5-11. This aims to help parents and guardians of 5-11 year old children make an informed decision when it’s time for their child to be offered a COVID-19 vaccine.

Registration for the vaccine will open shortly, with priority being placed on children who are more at risk from COVID-19 or children who have a high-risk person in the family. Parents and guardians can read this information on https://www2.hse.ie/screening-and-vaccinations/covid-19-vaccine/get-the-vaccine/covid-19-vaccination-for-children/  or they can download these information booklets from HSE.ie.

Dear Parents / Guardians,

In the event that both a class teacher and class support teacher are absent and no substitute teacher is available that class will have to go home and parents will be contacted as soon as is practicable.

This is to minimise the spread of Covid-19 and ensure the health & safety of both children and staff, passed by the Board of Management on 10th September, 2020.

Kind Regards,
Paula Carolan - Príomhiode

Dear Parents / Guardians,

If anyone in your household tests positive for Covid-19, ALL members of that household should self-isolate for 14 days.

Kind Regards,
Paula Carolan - Príomhiode

All of the teachers and staff at Thornleigh are working hard to get the school ready for a safe return for all of our students.
The images below will show you the progress to date.

Corridors have been clearly marked with tape and arrows so that children do not come into contact with each other while moving around the school.

Each classroom has a hand sanitizing unit both inside and outside the entry door, as well as in the bathrooms.

Picture

Each classroom has been setup to ensure social distancing between students.

Each teacher will wear a face covering and remain inside a clearly marked area to ensure distance from the children.

The Public Health Schools teams would like to thank you for communicating important messages to your school community. It is important to regularly reinforce these messages for your school communities to help keep everybody safe.

1) Before attending school: · Symptoms - Please make sure all staff and families are aware not to attend your facility if they have any symptoms of Covid-19 infection. · Symptomatic household members - Please remind all staff and children that no-one should be attending school if they have any household member who has signs or symptoms of Covid-19; they should be restricting their movements until it is clear whether the household member has Covid-19 infection or not. · Close contacts - Please remind all staff and children that they need to restrict their movements and undergo testing if they have been told by their doctor / HSE services that they are a close contact of a case of Covid-19; they should not be attending any school. · Re-enforcing general public health messages - Please ensure all staff and children attending your facilities are reminded of the importance of keeping your facilities safe by abiding by the national public health measures currently in place at all times e.g. restricting movements and social contacts, social distancing, use of facial coverings and hand hygiene.

There is a wide range of materials available for schools to support the communication with parents and students and re-inforce public health messaging. These include video messages from public health doctors on the safety of schools, posters and digital animations and videos.

The Department is very appreciative of the ongoing efforts of the school community working to limit the risk of the spread of COVID-19 in schools and ensuring that the infection control measures put in place in line with the school COVID-19 response plans are effective in making schools safe for children and staff. Discussions are ongoing about the further reopening of schools at the earliest opportunity in line with public health advice.
