Ms Quinns 5th Class - Check in!
Term 2 has been busy and full of lots of new learning. We’ve also had some exciting themed weeks in school with Seachtain na Gaeilge, Literacy & Well-being week. You can check out our Seachtain na Gaeilge video on the main news page, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!
We’ve also raised over 2000 euro for Ukraine, which we are very proud of and grateful for all of the kind donations.
In maths we’ve been covering lots of new topics like percentages, time, fractions, area and money!
We’ve just finished our geography projects on tourism which were very creative and informative. In history we’re exploring and comparing the French and American revolutions. In science we’ve been planting strawberries and learning all about the conditions needed for growing plants. We’re still reading Wonder and are enjoying it more and more each chapter! We are excited to finish it and watch the movie before our Easter holidays!
Check back in soon for more updates.

Múinteoir Siobhán's 5th Class update!
Hi everyone! We have had a great start to our academic year in 5th class! We visited Swords Castle at the end of September and the round tower at St.Columba’s Church. We hope to go on many more trips this school year. We thoroughly enjoyed the talks that we received and would recommend a visit to Swords Castle to anyone who hasn’t been before!
We have completed projects on Neptune for STEAM month which we typed in the computer room. They are displayed outside our classroom. In First Steps Writing we focused on 'Recount Writing' and we used our special 'First Steps' board to display our work. Other topics which we have covered include- World Peace Day, The U.S.A, The Dot Day and Pangea (The Supercontinent).
Check back soon to see what we are up to next month!
Ms Quinn’s 5th class September & October Update 2021
September & October have been fun and exciting months so far! We have had lots of fun already. Above you will see some photographs of what we have been getting up to -
Swords Castle, Project Presenting, Smoothie Making to mark World Food Waste Day, Project Work, World Peace Day Assembly, Scarecrow Initiative to celebrate World Mental Health and Team building activities, just to name a few!
Our big academic focus at the moment is mastering our times tables, reading at home for pleasure and engaging with Spellingsforme! Therefore it is important to encourage your child to do these 3 things as part of their home learning activities. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
Be sure to check in on us again soon to see what else we’ve been busy doing! Our goal is to update you on here from now on 😊
Ms. Karen's 5th Class 2021/22 - September 2021
Múinteoir Cathyann's and Múinteoir Matt's fourth classes staged a shared assembly acting as both performers and audience! We learned all about migratory birds and sung Three Little Birds by Bob Marley to mark the occasion!
Dear Parents
We have had a very busy and exciting month in 4th class. We are all working very hard and can be proud of ourselves.
In Maths, we are continuing to revise our tables and we are loving our first experience of the Thornleigh Tables Challenge this week. We learned a lot about fractions and division this month also.
In English, our novel ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ is really interesting and we look forward to reading it every Thursday. We are also working on our comprehension skills by completing fun activities related to the chapters. We have read lots of narratives and are enjoying using our imaginations through writing.
We made Diwali clay pots and decorated them beautifully. We are really excited about opening the windows of the Advent calendar we made ourselves.
We are loving STEAM week so far and have engaged in fun experiments such as ‘Dancing Raisins’, ‘Glitter Germ experiment’, making Lava Lamps and even a Skittles rainbow. We can’t wait to try out the rest of the experiments over the next few days. We are watching David Attenborough’s film ‘A life on our Planet’ this week also.
Keep an eye out on our page for more updates!
Many thanks
Fiona

Dear Parents,
November has just flown by. The children are making great progress in mathematics and have done great work in the area of fractions and division this month. During english time our main focus has been narrative writing.
We learned all about Spain this month and even got to sample some Spanish Paella. For our art we used the Spanish artist Salvador Dali as inspiration. We painted surrealist landscapes and created melting clocks with clay. We also explored printing techniques when we made city silhouettes.
We learned about the Roman Empire and its influence on our modern world. We even figured out how to use Roman numerals.
We have just started STEAM week and undertook our first experiment on Monday - Dancing Raisins. Ask them to explain the science behind it! Our Thornleigh Tables challenge is also underway as we speak!
Many thanks,
Matt
October - M. Fiona’s Class
Dear Parents
We have had a busy October in 4th class. In Maths, we are continuing to revise our multiplication tables and enjoy playing games to help with this. We looked at different ways of representing data including bar charts, tallies, pie charts and line graphs. We are getting really good at our mental maths too. We are looking forward to revising the division we learned in 3rd class next and understanding the links with multiplication.
We love reading and are thoroughly enjoying our class novel ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’. It leads to interesting discussions about the characters and issues that come up in the story. We are using the school and mobile library and love picking books of interest. We have looked at Reports in First Steps. We worked really hard on our ‘Dublin’ projects with wonderful results. We are all very proud of them.
We learned all about Day of the Dead (El dia de los Muertos) and Halloween. Our favourite part was producing wonderful art - Halloween silhouettes, Pumpkin in the night images and sugar skull drawings.
We love working with M. Elaine and M. Sharon on our English and Maths.
Keep an eye on our page for monthly updates.
Many thanks
Fiona

We are really enjoying using the outdoors for PE, reading, maths and SESE lessons. We have started our class novel ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ and it is a really interesting and enjoyable book so far. In Maths, we have looked at addition and subtraction of big numbers, place value, multiplication and data along with enjoying Maths games. In Gaeilge, we have been learning about ourselves and our families. In SESE, we have had great fun learning all about Dublin and Swords.
We love Art and have produced some wonderful pieces so far. You can see some of this work below. Our class motto this year is ‘Let Curiosity Lead the Way’.
Keep an eye out on our class page which I will try my best to update every few weeks!

November News- written by the children in Cathyann's class
This November we had a terrific month in 4th class.
We finished our novel- Safe Harbour! To celebrate we had Book Club with tea and biscuits. We discussed what we liked about the book and didn’t like. We asked each other important questions about the novel, and talked about what kind of a story we would like to read next. We liked learning a little bit about World War 2 and liked the characters, but the novel was sometimes sad. Next time, we would like to read a book set in more modern times.
Universal Children’s Day was the 20th of November and we learned about our rights as children and how sometimes being a child is not easy. We especially thought that we should always be listened to. After this, the children took over and were enabled to teach some lessons! We had a great P.E. lesson and Maths with games thanks to two young múinteoirs!
To celebrate DiWali, we made diva lamps, which are a symbol of light. We read the story of Rama and Sita and we wrote our own versions.
Thanksgiving was at the end of November and we played games-‘Roll a Turkey’ and thought about what we were thankful for.
We are excited to start learning about the Romans, STEAM week and all the lovely things we’ll do in the next month!
