In September 2021 Thornleigh ETNS established our first Nurture Room. Two members of staff Laura McCann and Gilllian Cosgrove had completed extensive training to roll out the nurture room in Thornleigh. The aim if the nurture program is to create a world where no child fails through lack of nurture and educational opportunity. Nurture groups are founded on evidence-based practices and offer a short-term, inclusive, focused intervention that works in the long term. Nurture groups are classes of between six and 12 children or young people in early years, primary or secondary settings supported by the whole staff group and parents. Each group is run by two members of staff. In the coming weeks we will be working on our own Wellbeing. We will take a look at the importance of taking care of our bodies and our minds, making time to do things that we enjoy, exploring feelings and emotions and the connection between our 'thinking brain' and our 'feeling brain'. As the weather improves we hope to get out and do some gardening. We will look at suitable fruits and vegetables to plant in our Irish climate!! We will continue with our weekly tea and toast check ins and make time for some physical exercise to boost our wellbeing and our social skills!! Keep an eye out her for post and photo updates!!

We have been very busy getting to know each other this term by filling out some personal profiles, sharing tea and toast morning meetings and working on our SALT and Educating the heart programmes. Together, we have developed our football yard contract to resolve our yard conflicts and to exercise our democratic rights and responsibilities! We have been exploring our strengths and talents as individuals and discussing areas that we can all work on to be even better class mates and friends. We have really enjoyed whole class activities as part of STEAM month together like our math trail and adopt a tree project. We have had some great fun with Jenga, Uno and learning some new card games to teach our classmates and families! Watch this space for regular updates and photos!
